NSSG Delivery Plan Digest - March 2018

The purpose of the NSSG Delivery Plan Digest is to highlight the NSSG Delivery Programme’s achievements, milestones, outcomes and partnership working over the last quarter. Active programme management drives progress towards and oversees the delivery of skills programmes, activities and initiatives for the UK nuclear industry, to address the key risks set out in the Nuclear Skills Strategy set by the NSSG.

Candidates sign up to Accelerated Experience and Learning Programme (AELP)

The ECITB has received its first batch of candidates for the AELP programme. These individuals are experienced oil and gas employees, working to chartered status.  They will initially be placed on the TRS nuclear portal, and in advance of this, NSSG employer members are also considering deployment opportunities. Sign up to the Nuclear Gateway platform

The new web-based Nuclear Gateway has seen a range of individuals and organisations sign-up up. The Nuclear Gateway system means that nuclear companies with oversubscribed graduate and apprentice programmes can provide candidates that they are unable to employ, with the opportunity to register and promote themselves to other nuclear companies.

Mark Rouse showcases NSSG at Seoul Conference on Nuclear Safety Cooperation

In February, the Republic of Korea Foreign Ministry hosted the 2018 Conference on Nuclear Safety Cooperation “Dialogue on Nuclear Safety”, in Seoul, for a discussion on ways for the international community to work together in promoting nuclear safety.  Read More >>

New  WiN video: why diversity builds a better business 

The NSSG continues to develop a sectoral diversity strategy, recognising the benefits it brings to the nuclear sector.The Government, supported by the NSSG, has set a diversity target of a nuclear workforce made up of 40% women by 2030 (we are currently at 23%) as well as enhancement of a diverse talent pool at all levels and more  representative of the UK population in terms of the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic  (BAME) population. Read More >>

Apprenticeship starts down by 131,500 since levy launch: employers “adjusting” to change

Many organisations have commented on the fact that figures released at the beginning of this month show there were 195,200 apprenticeship starts between April and November 2017. This represents a 40 per cent drop compared with 326,700 starts in the corresponding seven months in 2016.  Read More >>

Apprenticeship Funding Bands Review

DfE have announced a review of the 15 Apprenticeship funding bands for Standards apprenticeship-funding-bands review. Any changes will be introduced from 1st August 2018 – and be published in the Spring. The top band, in which a number of STEM Standards sit, will remain £27,000. The Government would like to see more negotiation with providers.

14th June  2018
